Makeup Noob. (With before and after)

Image

I am going on 24 years old, and I will admit I have the makeup skills of a 12 year old girl.  It just hasn’t been a priority, to be honest.  It’s not necessarily that I’m lazy… I do put on the basics (I’m talking a tiny bit of foundation, a swipe of blush, and mascara), and I usually straighten or curl my hair if I’m going out somewhere (other than errands or working out).  And I would dare say that I dress decently, too.  It’s just….I don’t like the idea of spending 30 minutes “making up” my face, and then taking my face off at night.

A memory that has always stuck with me… there was a girl at my high school who was Ms. Texas Junior or something like that… she won all these beauty pageants and everyone knew it.  She was a year older than me, but she was in my chemistry class because I was a year ahead.  She also lived on my street, but I never saw her on the bus.  Anyway, she WAS pretty, and nice enough.  But… one day, she walked into class and literally everyone went quiet… we hardly recognized her.  She had no make up on and not only was her skin tone WAY paler, but she looked completely lifeless.  I don’t know if she was actually sick that day, and that’s why she wasn’t wearing makeup, but in my mind I remember her as being sick because that’s how she looked.  I’m not telling this story because I think girls should be afraid to go without makeup…. the truth is, if she had always worn little to no makeup, she would still be a pretty girl.  But the difference between with make up and without makeup was SO DRASTIC that she looked weird because we weren’t used to it!  My point is…. I don’t ever want to be unrecognizable without makeup on.  I want to be real!!

Urban Decay Naked

Anyways.  I decided that maybe I should at least buy some eyeshadow and figure out why there are like 12 different brushes with different purposes.  And learn how to do my eyeliner without looking gothic.  Le sigh.  So I got the Urban Decay Naked pallet, and I decided to look up one of those youtube videos to see what magic was involved.  The first couple I watched were OVER 10 MINUTES LONG in fast-forward!!!  Meaning this had to take at least 30-45 minutes to do!  I’m not sure if I can commit to that……. Right now I can do hair (from dripping wet hair to blowdry and straighten/curl) AND make up in less than 20 minutes.  Baby steps…..

*edit* So here’s a “before” and “after” picture after spending 30 minutes of my time painting my face. It looked better in person, but 30 minutes is a long time !

  1. I am a certified makeup junkie!! I don’t apply gobs and gobs of makeup, I just really love my makeup. YouTube videos are so deceitful because it looks easier to achieve on the video then it is in real life. I would stick with other beauty blogs in the beginning because a lot of them may have “Pictorials” with step by step photos on how to create a look. I have quite a few on my blog!! 🙂 Hope this helps and welcome to the other side! Let me know if you have any questions xo

  2. I think you did a great job at making it look natural! I have known some people who look like a completely different person without make up, something I never want either, and I don’t think that’s you at all! Looks pretty!!

  3. That Urban Decay palette is the best for a natural look, which you seemed totally accomplish. My favorite makeup tip is a navy eyeliner inside the upper rim. It makes the whites of eyes look brighter and clearer, and that makes everything look better. 🙂
